We told you a few weeks ago about our plan to attend the September 19 meeting of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and shut down this rubber stamping agency at a critical moment for our climate and the US fossil fuel export industry.
In case you missed our planning call last week, here’s an update with the news you need.
- Wherever you are, sign here to call on FERC to stop all new fossil fuel permits.
- If you’re ready to RSVP, recruit your crew, and join us this September in DC for the Fall of FERC: Then click here to RSVP so we can get you connected to affinity groups, additional planning meetings, travel and housing accommodation and whatever else you need.
On our planning call last week, we talked about our spring Unfrack FERC Campaign and how we’re building off our successes and escalating pressure on FERC this Fall! This past spring our coalition disrupted FERC’s monthly meeting over 16 times – and you can see many examples and past actions in our blog. You can also click here to see a youtube video of disruptions we shared on the call.
But a lot has changed since those spring actions! In the last few weeks, three new Commissioners have taken seats at FERC and the D.C. Circuit Court has struck at the heart of FERC’s broken permitting process. By vacating multiple fossil fuel permits — including a Williams pipeline in New Jersey, as well as the Rio Grande LNG, TX LNG, and Rio Bravo pipelines in Texas — The court found that FERC has failed to consider climate change analysis and clear violations of environmental justice. This is just what we’ve been telling FERC for years and all spring with the unFrack FERC campaign!
With grassroots movements escalating against fossil fuels and federal Courts finally validating our arguments and issuing real consequences for FERC’s failures – is this the beginning of the Fall of FERC?
September 19 is the critical moment to stand up to FERC over all their past failures, and demand a permanent change in the way the federal government reviews, permits, or opposes fossil fuels – especially LNG exports. Sign now if you agree and we’ll keep you in the loop about upcoming FERC actions you can take online.
We’re also looking for dozens of people to come to Washington D.C. September 18-19, and for 30 of them to interrupt the monthly FERC commissioner meeting. September 18 will be a travel day for those of you coming from out of town, and we’ll have time and space to share a meal, make some art, and make final preparations the night before.
We want to bring so much joyous rebellion to the FERC meeting they simply cannot continue to meet to expand fossil fuel infrastructure!
- We will replace their bureaucratic jargon with truth and song!
- We will force them to face up to what their actions do to communities, to our planet, to the lives of their own children!
- We will UNFRACK FERC!
We are looking for folks to commit to action by September 7th. Please RSVP here if you’re able to join us, and circulate this invite within your networks and bring your friends.
