For the last few weeks, we’ve been telling you how Trump and Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was a disaster. They promised DOGE would save U.S. taxpayers trillions. Instead, it cost us all money, destroyed vital agencies, left tens of thousands of dedicated public servants jobless, exposed the personal data of nearly every American, and resulted in the needless deaths of hundreds of thousands of people.
Over the last few weeks we’ve delivered More than 50,000 petition signatures to Members of Congress – with 54 organizational cosponsors including labor unions SEIU and CWA. Now we’re ramping up our pressure by demanding key members of Congress open investigations into DOGE.
In just the latest examples of how DOGE’s cuts are still harming us: The world is now witnessing the escalating Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda, which would look much different if USAID still existed. But Elon Musk gutted the vital agency and infamously boasted about feeding it into the “wood chipper.” If the massive support that USAID previously provided were still in place, many more lives would be saved and vital expertise and resources would be deployed to those most in need. Yet Musk and DOGE officials who made these and other grievous decisions have yet to be held accountable.
Another “explosive” and disgusting impact: The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) used to have a Cyclospora Lab. DOGE downsized it last year, and now experts say those very same layoffs have made the foodborne parasite causing thousands of cases of “explosive diarrhea” even more difficult to track and contain.
DOGE not only dismantled USAID and the CDC, they cost us all money, used artificial intelligence to slash federal regulations, and exposed the personal data of nearly every American. Whistleblowers claim that after DOGE officials stole our sensitive personal data, a staffer signed an agreement to share data with a political group aiming to overturn election results. A separate whistleblower also revealed that a former senior DOGE official copied the names, birthdays, and Social Security numbers of over 300 million Americans to an unsecured cloud server –– potentially putting our private information at risk of being hacked and used by identity thieves.
Congress must exercise its oversight authority to investigate potential illegal behavior on the part of DOGE and ensure accountability. And it’s critical that they continue hearing from angry constituents if they’re going to be convinced to do so like you. Tell Congress to investigate DOGE.
Congress must start by investigating DOGE’s mishandling of our Social Security data, Musk’s enormous conflicts of interest while he headed DOGE, and the potential misuse of positions within government by DOGE officials who also hold positions at major corporations, investment firms, and other for-profit entities.
The American public deserves a full accounting of DOGE’s actions. Tell Congress to hold Musk and his DOGE bros to account.
