Tax the Rich & Fight Fossil Fueled Fascist Oiligarchs

This Wednesday, April 15, is tax day. And every year on Tax Day, millions of Americans pay what they owe.

Teachers, nurses, construction workers, small business owners, and families across the country pay taxes out of every paycheck. Those dollars help fund schools, roads, hospitals, climate resilience, disaster response, and programs that help millions of families stay afloat. They used to fund renewable energy and action on climate change too – but Trump has cut most of that to pay for billionaire tax breaks, war, and his immigration gestapo.

But the rich in America play by a completely different set of rules. Sign here to tell Congress to tax the rich and make life more affordable for our climate and communities.

Billionaires and giant corporations have spent decades lobbying Congress to create special loopholes, carve-outs, and tax breaks that allow them to avoid paying what they owe. As billionaire wealth has soared into the trillions, working families are struggling with rising housing costs, expensive healthcare, unaffordable childcare, and wages that have not kept up.

That is why, ahead of Tax Day we’re sending tens of thousands of messages to Congress, urging them to implement policies that raise at least $10 trillion over the next decade by making the ultra-wealthy and big corporations finally pay their fair share.

We’re fighting for these four common-sense priorities:

  1. Make billionaires and ultra-wealthy elites pay their fair share by closing loopholes, strengthening IRS enforcement, and ensuring income from wealth is taxed like income from work.
  2. Hold big corporations accountable by raising corporate tax rates, ending tax breaks for profit-shifting and stock buybacks, and strengthening rules that prevent profitable corporations from paying little or nothing in federal taxes.
  3. Reduce the power of oligarchs and dynastic wealth by reforming the estate tax, eliminating loopholes like stepped-up basis, and taxing massive financial speculation and billionaire wealth gains.
  4. Invest the revenue raised into programs that make life more affordable for working families, including healthcare, housing, childcare, a fully refundable Child Tax Credit, renewable energy, climate action, and restoring funding for critical programs like Medicaid and SNAP.

On Tax Day we should honor a basic principle: everyone needs to contribute their fair share to build a stronger country. Tell Congress it is time to tax the rich and make life more affordable for everyone.
