Melt the ICE – week of Action in MN and around the country

Minnesotan organizers and neighbors are calling us to action February 25 – March 1 for a week of action. A week-long Twin Cities gathering will include political education, rapid responder, and legal observer trainings as well as opportunities to join a range of protests targeting ICE and their collaborators. Can’t make it to Minnesota? No problem – a national day of action against detention centers, on Saturday February 28.

Community members and anti-ICE organizers in Minnesota invite you to join mass resistance to keep building the national movement to Abolish ICE! Join us:

Minnesota has been besieged by ICE for over two months now. This week, the government has announced that a wide scale “draw down” of law enforcement is underway, but we know that they are still in the streets, and we know our neighbors are still missing. Even after Operation Metro Surge “officially” ends, the baseline number of ICE agents stationed in Minnesota has historically hovered at 150, and we can be sure that they will remain better resourced than at any other point in history.

Moreover, ICE reports that 4,000 children, parents, business owners, and essential community members have been abducted since the start of Operation Metro Surge and are being held in detention camps across the country along with countless others. Many of these detention camps are regular jails, showing that there is still active collaboration between local sheriffs, police, and ICE. It is time to mobilize coordinated action to end detention centers now!

You can learn more about the week of action and national call to action on our website and social media. Organizers will reach out soon to registered participants to share our schedule for the week and other logistical information.

Toolkit for planning a Feb 28 action against detention centers:

Can’t make it to the Twin Cities? Take action against ICE detention centers near you on the corresponding National Day of Action: Saturday, Feb 28.

It’s time to mobilize coordinated action to end detention centers now! This is about all of us — will you defend your community and stand up for what is right? We can win, but we must slow, disrupt, and corrode every piece of the ICE apparatus of state terror. It is time to shut down the detention camps and open the cages!

Goals of a National Day of Action

  1. Connect the fight against ICE in Minneapolis to the fight everywhere.
  2. Stage protests and actions that politically and economically disrupt the deportation system.
  3. Demonstrate to our adversaries and to our communities that we are prepared to act wherever they have inhumane detention centers and wherever they try to build more.

Plan an action:

Start by looking at this or this list of 23 industrial warehouses slated to become detention centers soon, this list of 6 new immigration detention centers uncovered by an ACLU FOIA, and this list of newly leased office spaces. Then get your people together and plan something to let ICE know that wherever they go people will fight back!

You can also take action at the corporate enablers of ICE – like Target, Enterprise, Hilton and more. See the tools and learn more about the campaign here.
