May 19 update – House Republicans overcame the stumbling block we told you about last week and advanced the bill past the Budget committee late Sunday night. There are still substantial disagreements among the Republican conference, and as of today, Speaker MAGA Mike Johnson still does not have the votes.
And, in an exciting sign that our pressure is working, Republicans dropped the so-called Nonprofit Killer provision from the budget bill. But there is still so much bad, cruel, and dangerous in this budget, and now the US House of Representatives is one step closer to enacting it.
Join us tonight, May 19, for an up to the moment briefing on how to fight back! We’re joining a mass mobilization call with folks from across the progressive movement who are rallying to stop this fossil fueled fascist budget bill. And we’ll be joined by leading Democrat on the Senate Budget Committee, Sen Ron Wyden! Our call on Monday will be followed by an online and call-in day of action Tuesday May 20. The next major vote will be in the House Rules Committee at 1am ET on Wednesday, May 21, and we expect votes in the full US House later this week May 21-23. Click here to RSVP for the call on Monday, May 19!

May 13 – Trump and his fossil fueled fascist allies in Congress are trying to pass a big, bad, budget bill that guts vital services like healthcare, eldercare, childcare, and climate action to pay for tax breaks and handouts to billionaires and polluting corporations. Not content to destroy our climate and care, the bill also threatens immigrants and anyone the regime dislikes with deportation, expands the US War machine and militarized policing, and targets non-profits and community groups for extermination.
If we tried to list every bad thing in this fossil fueled fascist budget bill, this message would be hundreds of pages long, and still inevitably miss some injustice, cruelty, and stupid idea. But Congress is racing at break neck speed to pass this disastrous re-write of American society so they can turn our country into a fossil fueled fascist dictatorship ASAP.
Fortunately, we’ve been preparing for this moment for months. And we’re mobilizing later this month, and all through June to say NO to the fossil fueled fascist budget. If you’re ready to get plugged in, join the No Deal for Big Oil Billionaires Mass Call this Thursday!
- The call was not recorded, but you can check out the slides here.
- Some key links:
- Good explainer (as of May 15) on where we’re at with process and what’s in the budget bill.
- Members of the House Budget Committee where the bill was held up today: next vote Sunday May 18!
- Members of the House Rules Committee where the bill could be voted on as soon as Monday night, May 19!
- Who to call and why to call your member of Congress? As soon as next week, May 21-24, the full US House may vote on whether to pass the budget reconciliation bill. Every member of Congress should be asked to vote no, but not every member of Congress may know, or be persuaded, by the same information. We’ll have more updates on who to call and how to call on our Monday May 19 mobilization call. In the meantime, here are three versions of a list of who to call:
- Some environmental groups identified this list of moderate or vulnerable Republican members of Congress to call
- Our friends at Popular Democracy made this Congressional target list:
- And our friends at Americans for Tax fairness & Public Citizen, who are co-hosting the call on Monday night made this one.
Trump’s fossil fueled fascist budget is trying to give handouts to Big Oil, tax cuts to billionaires, and fund mass detention facilities with our tax dollars. This is money that should be used for life saving services like Medicaid and SNAP that millions of Americans rely on to keep their family healthy and their kids fed. Honestly this is only the tip of the iceberg. Trump’s budget is brimming with proposals that pad the pockets of his wealthy buddies and strip away critical government services we depend on. We’re descending on Washington to say No Deal!
People all over the country are already taking action – We know this is a critical moment. And news reports confirm that this dirty budget is not a done deal yet. This is the anti-fascist climate movement’s moment to throw down and say NO DEAL! Join us online next week, in Washington DC on June 3rd, and in person around the country this summer. Here’s the plan:

On June 14, the country needs to put on a major “panelaço,” the Latin-style banging on pots and pans, everywhere, all day long, but especially in the DC area.
