July 17-19 Get in Good Trouble with us

July 8 update – Things are heating up for the summer as we get ready to get in Good Trouble with old friends and new July 17-19. Tuesday night the Trump regime announced plans to send “election monitors” to six states—Arizona, Michigan, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, and Virginia—before their primary elections this summer.

This is the latest attack on voting rights from the regime, and this time it’s focussed on deep-blue states that are likely to elect Democrats, and swing states where the mid term elections could determine control of Congress.

To get ready, we’re teaming up with the ACLU to offer a special virtual Know Your Voting Rights training on Monday, July 13th at 8 PM ET / 5 PM PT as part of the Good Trouble Lives On Weekend of Action. Join us.

July 1 update – This week the Supreme Court finally laid down their gavels and ended what history will record as one of the most devastating terms since Dred Scott. In just the last few weeks, the same Supremes who struck down abortion rights have lynched the civil rights act, eviscerated pollution laws, and more. Thankfully they stopped short (barely) of reversing the birthright to citizenship every American has enjoyed for 250 years. But one victory is a cold comfort among the wreckage of our constitutional order.

And Trump and his fossil fueled fascist minions show no sign of letting up, though they too have suffered some minor setbacks this week. Trump is on the warpath demanding Congress remake election rules in his image by passing the so-called SAVE Act, which would strip millions of women, immigrants, and others of their voting rights. MAGA infighting and Congressional back-biting oer the bill caused the House to adjourn early this week, but they’ll be back in mid July and will resume their work.

This is all a part of a new Jim-Crow effort to silence our voices and block millions of Americans from voting. The civil rights leaders of the past have shown us the power of collective non-violent action. That’s why from July 17th – July 19th, we’re continuing the fight for voting rights with the “Good Trouble Lives On Weekend of Action.”

June 17 – Last week, the FBI raided the homes and offices of staff for the Ohio Organizing Collaborative, a voting rights organization that has helped Ohioans exercise their sacred freedom to vote and make their voice heard for the past 20 years.

Earlier this year they indicted the Southern Poverty Law Center. And just this week, federal agents arrested and indicted more than 15 legal observers and peaceful protestors in Minnesota. All of these groups have in common that they help people speak up, register to vite, and exercise their constitutional right to protest.

But civil and voting rights hero John Lewis always preached that voting isn’t just a right. It’s an act of resistance. That’s why we’re proud to once again join the Good Trouble Lives On (GTLO) weekend of action July 17-19. Be there.

Voting isn’t just a right. It’s an act of resistance. When they try to steal our voices, we speak louder. When they build walls, we break them down. When they suppress, we SHOW UP. #GoodTrouble Weekend of Action. Be there. RSVP & learn more at www.goodtroubleliveson.org?utm_source=1…

Trump and his fossil fueled fascist regime are attempting to intimidate civil rights organizations from supporting the right to vote, speak out, and protest. This is an affront to our democracy. They are trying to silence us and keep us from voting

John Lewis’s actions as a leader in the civil rights movement – fighting for the right to vote and the freedom to march – inspired millions of us. And his call to get in trouble, good trouble, and defend the right to vote still rings in our ears

Communities across the country are organizing community events designed to bring people together to continue the fight for civil rights and our freedom to vote. Click here to see if there’s one near you.

If not, click here to host something.
