What happens when ordinary people take on the fossil fuel industry —a true vs Goliath struggle of people vs money and power? That’s the question the VS. GOLIATH mini-series seeks to answer.
Tune in to the first in a series of monthly premiers to hear stories of courage and resistance from the frontlines of the climate crisis. Each month, we’ll screen one episode and hear directly from the people living these stories. Next week, we’ll watch the first installment featuring stories from Sharon Lavigne and Rise St James as they took on Formosa and other fossil fuel companies in cancer Alley Louisiana. Additional screenings will be held on the first Tuesday of each month, July through October.
Join us July 7th at 8PM-9:15 ET / 5PM-6:15 PT live online wherever you live. RSVP now.
Sharon Lavigne, 70, has lived in St. James, Louisiana all her life, and she’s watched it turn from the lush and productive farmland of her youth into one of the most polluted places in the country, now known as “Cancer Alley.” When another huge petrochemical plant is announced for St. James, God tells Sharon to fight back. Follow Sharon and her daughter, Sharmyra, as they wrestle with how to build a better future for St. James.
Sharon Lavigne and Shamyra Lavigne-Davey (of RISE St James), and Darryl Malek-Wiley (of the Sierra Club Louisiana) will join Bill McKibben for the post-screening discussion, and take audience questions.
Registered attendees will receive a private screening link to watch the film, and join the conversation with McKibben, Lavigne and others right after.
