President Biden has until February to define and update what is the US’ fair share of climate action in a warming world. But just at the moment we need President Biden to step up and cement his legacy with bold action, US Negotiators have reportedly backed away from international action to stop climate chaos.
The world stands on the brink of climate chaos – 2024 was already the hottest year in recorded history, and Scientists tell us we have only months or a few years remaining before we permanently breach the Paris Agreement’s 1.5c goal. And things will only get worse once fossil fueled fascist Donald Trump retakes power.
Can you call the White House right now at (202) 456-1414 and tell him This is our last chance to do our fair share on climate! Click here for a script and additional instructions, or read on below for more.
For months we were warned that the election risked returning Trump and fossil fueled fascism to power. Now that it’s come to pass, will President Biden and Democrats fight — not to deny the election results, but — not to hand Trump & Co any unnecessary starting advantages? On climate, in particular, will Biden take bold action to deny fossil fuels and engage the world in climate action? Doing so will not only signal willingness to lead and make a material impact on global climate negotiations underway in Baku, it could also create material headwinds that Trump and fossil fueled fascists will need to overcome.
The main point of this year’s COP talks is for countries to update their climate action pledges, or Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), under the Paris Climate Agreement. These NDC’s are the foundational answer to “what is our fair share of climate change?” and what we will do about it.
But the Biden administration still has a chance to cement his legacy on climate by making a strong pledge for the US that includes a commitment to phase out fossil fuels at home by 2031 and to provide its fair share of funding for climate action worldwide. Sign up to call with us on Friday, Nov. 15 as part of the global day of action.
Our friends at the ShiftUS pledge have come up with a workable plan and list of demands for what should be included in President Biden’s NDC. You can check them out in this fact sheet, or in the post below.
But getting President Biden to take action will require collective effort. On Friday, November 15, we’re joining a Global Day of Action for climate justice. There will be movement organizations participating in the COP29 UN climate talks being held in Baku, Azerbaijan ; and there will be all of us here in the US

Hi, my name is [Your Name], and I’m calling to urge the White House to cement Biden’s legacy as the Climate President and adopt the Fair Share NDC as a framework for the U.S. Nationally Determined Contribution in 2025.
The Fair Share NDC emphasizes
* an 80% reduction in GHG emissions domestically
* providing finance to reduce our historical emissions internationally and to support adaptation and Loss & Damage
* a Fast, Full, Fair, Funded, and Feminist Fossil Fuel Phaseout by 2031If there is any time to be ambitious, it is now.
Can I count on you to pass a Fair Share NDC before Trump takes office?
