Jan 22 – On January 7, ICE murdered Renee Good in Minneapolis, MN. Just a few days later partners across the country stood up the Ice Out of Everywhere weekend of mobilization. But in the two weeks since then, ICE has only intensified their attacks on Minnesota communities.
Yesterday ICE detained four children there, including a 5-year-old who they used as “bait” to try and entrap others. Today they arrested a prominent civil rights attorney and at least two other people involved in an anti-immigration enforcement protest that disrupted a service at a church where and ICE agent was serving as a pastor. (Jesus, it should be remembered, famously disrupted many religious services including one where he threw out money lenders.)
In response, community leaders in Minnesota are calling for a full-day economic blackout tomorrow – January 23. Economic blackouts are similar to a “general strike” in that everyone is encouraged to skip work or school (except for emergency services) and businesses close. Nearly 2,000 people walked out of work with us earlier this week and now the same coalition that helped organize the No Kings rallies is joining them in solidarity. Join us:
- Check if there is an event planned for your area here.
- If not, grab a few friends and plan an Economic blackout action of your own – you could organize a non-violent visibility event; Demand corporations stand with us and stand up to ICE; Demand Congress act now to rein in ICE*. Check out the toolkit if you need ideas or inspriation.
*Note the House is set to vote later today, Thursday, on a spending bill to fund ICE. See our post yesterday for more details or to call Congress) This has been a fast moving story for weeks, so if you need to catch up or grab signs, toolkits and more materials – use the links and information below.
Jan 9 – A quick update as a lot has happened this week and there are a LOT of events planned this weekend in response.
First and foremost, like all of you We are outraged by the killing of Renee Nicole Good by ICE. She was a 37 year old wife and mother of three children who loved to sing and studied creative writing and she was shot in the face by an ICE agent. We grieve her death and the deaths of all those killed in ICE detention.
We also know that Ms. Good’s killing was not an isolated incident, but the devastating and predictable result of ICE’s lawless operations and President Trump’s abuse of power. For months, ICE and CBP have endangered our communities. Our neighbors fear for their livelihoods and their lives, and our communities are less safe – our first big action of 2025 was a. We won’t stand for it.
That’s why, to demand accountability for the murder of Renee Nicole Good, and put an end to ICE and CBP raids we’re joining the same coalition that helped organize the No Kings rallies in 2025 for ICE Out, Everywhere, rallies this weekend. Click here to find one of the hundreds of events already planned. Or click here to host one if there’s nothing planned for your neighborhood. You can also check out the host toolkit here for more information. and there’s a quick safety training and legal briefing sponsored by the ACLU tonight, Friday, January 9, 2026 8:00 PM – 9:00 PM ET
We are ALSO continuing to support the Chevron and Citgo focussed actions this weekend, which are aimed at the corporations and billionaires who stand to benefit from Trump’s illegal war for oil in Venezuela. You can join a protest or action this weekend, January 10, against the corporate sponsors of this war – or click here to host an event, or here for a host toolkit. You can also check out the talking points memo from our friends at Oil Change International which has tons of facts and stats you can use to educate and mobilize.
The good news here is that a majority of the US Senate, including five Republicans, did vote to proceed with a War Powers Resolution, that would check Trump’s ability and powers. It’s only a step, but it is a step in the right direction and you can encourage more members of Congress to support this kind of action by sending them a letter here.
A lot of events will include messages about both ending the war for oil and getting Ice Out of our communities. And, of course, you’re always welcome to attend more than one event and be as involved as you want to be in organizing. But if you’re trying to decide which event to host or join this weekend, consider this: The ICE Out rallies will have bigger crowds, lower risk, but will also not directly confront the people and corporations supporting Fossil Fueled Fascism in the US. The Chevron and Citgo actions this weekend will directly confront the corporations and billionaires behind war and militarized police – but they may be smaller, more militant, and/or include non violent direct action which carries additional risks.
Whatever you chose to do this weekend, we encourage you to center solidarity with individuals and communities already impacted by ICE, violence, and militarism. This could include reading the names of individuals killed by ICE in chants, speeches, and signs including these well known stories:

The fossil fuel and mining industries must be sunk, not propped up by one capitalist simply annoyed by competition from another capitalist.
