30 hours

I just want to write you a quick update on Brett Kavanaugh: Trump’s anti-environment, anti-worker, anti-woman nominee to the Supreme Court.

First, and this is important, it’s not too late to stop this nomination. In fact, we may be getting closer to beating Trump and Kavanaugh. BUT we can only do that if we keep up the pressure – so whether you’ve called before or not, call your Senators right now, today, and tell them they must vote No.

Call (202) 224-3121 and ask to speak to your Senators or toll free 866-426-2631 and our friends at SEIU will connect you.

call now to save the supreme court

Now, a quick update: It’s been a rollercoaster few days as the FBI was rushed through an investigative process where they were instructed to only talk to 9 people, none of whom were Dr Blasey Ford or Judge Kavanaugh, one of whom refused to answer questions.

At the end of that deeply flawed, completely inadequate investigation, the results (some 50 pages of notes and documents) were delivered to a sealed room in the US Senate, where all 100 Senators were given about a day to read them, one at a time. Several Senators, including South Carolina’s Lindsey Graham admitted they didn’t even read the documents, they just listened to a briefing by some staff, and decided not to change their vote.

BUT this morning, something really important happened. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell called a cloture vote – basically ending the confirmation process, and calling the question of whether – based on what they know right now – Senators are ready to vote for or against Kavanaugh’s nomination.

In a big surprise, Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska voted NO on cloture. Several other swing votes – including Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Jeff Flake of Arizona and Susan Collins of Maine – all voted yes on the cloture motion and it passed 51-49. That sets off a final 30 hours of debate with a vote expected tomorrow afternoon.

This is a big deal because it’s very rare for a Senator to vote no on cloture, and then yes on a nomination. Murkowski is probably a no vote. And Collins, Flake and Manchin’s votes in favor of cloture don’t  mean that they’ll vote yes on the nomination, just that they’re prepared to cast their vote. If Murkowski is a no, and 2 of those 3 remaining swing votes can be convinced, Kavanaugh’s nomination will fail. And just as important, Murkowski’s no vote on the process is a sign that some republicans still aren’t satisfied by the FBI investigation and hearings to date. If Murkowski can vote no, every Republican with a conscience can be persuaded.

Now, to be clear, the almost-all-male, almost-all-white Republican caucus is not likely to change it’s mind. But we only need a handful of votes, and Mukowski’s no this morning indicates we may be moving in the right direction.

And, finally, the most important point – that’s all because of you, and me, and all the protests and calls and public outcry. White, male, Republicans (including Trump) have been taking to TV and twitter all morning to complain about how ‘rude’ survivors of sexual assault are being; Or to complain about how well organized our movement is to stop Kavanaugh. While a lot of their talking points are utter nonsense (like Trump claiming George Soros is personally responsible for all the outcry) – it indicates that our pressure is getting to them.

We can win this thing in the next 30 hours. A huge coalition of us are hosting a people’s filibuster on the Senate’s front lawn, and we’re prepared to talk all night to delay or stop the vote on Kavanaugh’s nomination. And a big wave of national rallies are planned for tomorrow (Saturday).

We need you to participatetune into the livestream and wave, send a comment,  or share with friends. Sign up to attend a rally near you tomorrow and bring a sign. But most importantly, make your voice heard right now and for the next 30 hours – Call (202) 224-3121 or toll free with SEIU 866-426-2631 and tell your Senators to vote NO on Judge Kavanaugh. Need help with what to say? Believe Survivors. Stop Kavanaugh.

I watched all 9+ hours of the Senate Judiciary committee hearings yesterday, and like a lot of you I feel awful.

I feel sick – physically. I feel emotional. I’m angry, but also deeply sad. I feel, in fact, a lot like I did the day after the 2016 election when Trump “won”.

But here’s the thing, this isn’t the day after. It’s the day of – today the Senate Judiciary committee is scheduled to vote on this disgusting, planet killing, rape-culture-affirming, nominee. At about noon is the moment to show up. Will you join me?

Believe survivors. Stop Kavanaugh

I live in South Carolina, which means Sen. Lindsey Graham is my Senator. I’ll be going to show him how I feel about his passionate defense of rape culture yesterday. I’ll be going because nobody gets to tell me and my friends what to do with out bodies or how to feel about the men who oppress us. I’ll be going because this hasn’t happened yet and I don’t want to sit downstairs and wonder why the music is so loud upstairs where Lindsey, Brett and the other boys are.

Yeah, I don’t know if I can change my Senator’s mind. I rather doubt it. But it’s not too late to stop this and a great many other harms, yet.

Last chance to #SaveSCOTUS and stop Kavanaugh

Your remember Brett Kavanaugh, Trump’s anti-environment, anti-worker, climate-denying, women’s-rights-decrying nominee to the Supreme Court? Yeah, he’s been hard ot forget lately – especially since he was accused of sexual assault.

But here’s the thing: Donald Trump and his allies in Congress – they want you to forget all about Kavanaugh and his crimes (both alleged and perfectly well documented). Trump & co. are running the same play they always do when one of their own are accused of sexual assault or violence against women: they deny it, attack the accuser, and accuse anyone who says different of being part of a conspiracy.

Dr. Christine Blasey Ford is scheduled to testify and share her story of how Kavanaugh assaulted her on Thursday before the Senate Judiciary Committee. But late last night ANOTHER accusation surfaced, this time from Kavanaugh’s time in college. And Michael Avenati – the same lawyer representing Stormy Daniels, the porn-star who had an affair with President Trump – says he is representing a THIRD woman.

At 1 p.m. today thousands of our neighbors will walk out of work and school as part of a national moment of solidarity to show support for Dr. Blasey Ford and ALL survivors of sexual assault. You can join us by wearing black and stopping what you are doing — leave your post at your home, your office, your classroom, wherever you are — You can also call (202) 224-3121 (or 866-426-2631 and our friends at SEIU will connect you to your Senators toll free – thanks friends!) so you can tell your Senators to vote NO on Kavanaugh.

Not sure what to say? Start here (and feel free to read the links below for lots more context and ideas):

You’ll be connected to the congressional switchboard when you call (or to a pre-recorded message from SEIU if you use the toll free line). Tell them the name of your Senator or which state you live in (or enter your zip code when prompted). They’ll patch you through to one of your two Senators and you’ll probably get a receptionist or a voicemail. You can say something like:

“Brett Kavanaugh is a radical, anti-environment justice who’s already said that the President is above the law, Roe v Wade should be overturned, and corporations have the right to pollute our water and destroy our climate. On top of all that, he’s now been accused of sexual assault by more than one woman.  You MUST stop any vote from happening and Kavanaugh must withdraw himself from consideration. Do I have your promise that you’ll oppose this dangerous nomination?”

Don’t forget to call back and tell your other Senator (we all have 2) the same thing!

Right now, the Senate Judiciary Committee is moving forward with a sham hearing not meant to get to the truth about Brett Kavanaugh. It’s about rushing Trump’s pet judge onto the highest court in the land before they reconvene on October 1. And that’s not a coincidence: If confirmed, one of Kavanaugh’s first decisions could be to rule that Trump is above the law, and shut down the Mueller investigation subpoena. We can’t let this happen. Join the walkout today at 1pm and then call (202) 224-3121 (or toll free 866-426-2631) and tell your Senators not to allow Kavanaugh’s nomination to have a hearing or a vote.

Trump has already said that the accusations against Kavanaugh are “no different than the Russian witch hunt…”.And it’s not outlandish to think Kavanaugh will protect the president that appointed him to a lifetime term on the Supreme Court. After all, Kavanaugh has already said he thinks the SCOTUS ruling that forced Richard Nixon to hand over the Watergate tapes was a “mistake.” He’s also said that sitting President’s can’t or shouldn’t be investigated (despite the fact that he investigated President Clinton when he was desperate to make a name for himself). And Kavanaugh’s time working for George W Bush shows that he believes a President can pick and choose which parts of the law to enforce, based on his own interpretation of the constitution.

But there’s good news. The vote on Kavanaugh was always going to be close, and he’s already the least popular Supreme Court Nominee in recent history Statements this week indicate that some Republicans may be wavering. Now is the time to speak out: Call (202) 224-3121 (or toll free 866-426-2631) and tell your Senators not to allow Kavanaugh’s nomination to have a hearing or a vote.

Unite for Justice, and a safe climate August 26

You’ve already heard that Donald Trump’s Supreme Court pick Brett Kavanaugh is a disaster. He must not be given a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court.

We know for certain that Kavanaugh would rule to end Roe v. Wade and criminalize abortion, gut healthcare, attack voting rights and LGBTQ rights, slash environmental protections, hand the keys of our government to giant corporations, and further damage workers’ and immigrant rights. He’s already ruled in favor of more mercury in our water, more pollution in our air, and he has it in for the EPA and climate science

Mitch McConnell and his Republican friends thought this would be easy for them — that’s why they’re rushing the process on Kavanaugh. They’ve scheduled hearings for the first week in September, MONTHS before anyone even has a chance to review his full record and the millions of documents he worked on as a senior lawyer and staff secretary for George W Bush.

That’s why we’re joining Friends of the Earth, NARAL Pro-Choice America, MoveOn.org and more than 30 other organizations from across the country to build an August 26th National Day of Action, “Unite for Justice,” to stop Brett Kavanaugh and demand that our senators vote NO on his confirmation. Are you in? Sign up to host or attend an August 26 event near you.

If the Senate votes to confirm Kavanaugh, it would cement into place the worst and most dangerous of Donald Trump’s policies for generations to come. Not only that, but he could use his position on the Supreme Court to rule that Trump is immune from investigation and prosecution, creating a lawless presidency with Trump in control.

On August 26th, events will be held in all 50 states to #StopKavanaugh and #SaveScotus. With so much at stake, can you join us in the streets as we take action? RSVP now for our August 26th national day of action.

Make the call to Stop Kavanaugh

Have you met Brett Kavanaugh, Trump’s nominee to the supreme court? He’s everything you expect, and more: He’s ruled in favor of more mercury in our water, more pollution in our air, and he has it in for the EPA and climate science.

But there’s something nobody knows about Kavanaugh, something the Washington Post this week called a “nightmare scenario” for the constitution and our country: Whether he would use his position on the Supreme Court to rule that Trump is immune from investigation and prosecution, creating a lawless presidency with Trump in control.

Scared yet? Me too. Call (202) 224-3121 and tell your Senators to vote NO on Kavanaugh.

Not sure what to say? Start here (and feel free to read the links below for lots more context and ideas):

You MUST vote NO on his confirmation. And you should speak out now to demand that no vote be held until we have a chance to see ALL his papers from the George W Bush administration — well after the mid-term elections. Do I have your promise that you’ll oppose this dangerous nomination?”

Don’t forget to call back and tell your other Senator (we all have 2) the same thing!

Robert Mueller is actively investigating Donald Trump and his associates over whether they colluded with Russia to fix the 2016 Presidential Election. Trump’s legal team is stone-walling, refusing to let Trump be interviewed because if he does, they’re worried he’ll perjure himself, lie to the FBI or confess to a crime (as he’s already done on twitter). Mueller therefore is likely to subpoena Trump, setting up an unprecedented legal showdown that can only end at the United States Supreme Court later this fall.

But here’s the scary part –Trump and McConnell have already announced plans to fast track the Kavanaugh nomination, with initial hearings scheduled in the next few weeks. If confirmed, one of his first decisions could be to rule that Trump is above the law, and shut down the Mueller investigation subpoena. We can’t let this happen. Call (202) 224-3121. to your Senators and tell them not to allow Kavanaugh’s nomination to have a hearing or a vote.

And Kavanaugh’s time working for George W Bush shows that he believes a President can pick and choose which parts of the law to enforce, based on his own interpretation of the constitution.

We simply can’t let this happen. Call (202) 224-3121 and tell your Senators to vote no on Kavanaugh, and any Supreme Court Nominee who will rule that Trump is ‘above the law.’
